I've got an 1894C that nicely compliments my pair of Smith & Wesson Model 66 revolvers. Since there are countless tubular magazine .22 rimfire rifles out there that will accept .22 Short, .22 Long and .22 Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably, would it be much of a struggle to adapt an 1894C to accept .38 Short Colt and .38 Long Colt ammunition along with the .357 Magnum and .38 Special ammunition it already accepts? This would make an already versatile carbine even more versatile. I could load it once with .38 Short Colts and not have to reload again during the squirrel season.

The Marlin 1894C internal's are made to function the 357 cartridge and using shorter cartridges (i.e. 38 Special with flush seated wadcutters and other short cartridges) will cause the gun to jam. Shortest cartridges I can get to function is 38 Special with a wadcutter bullet seated to protrude approx .2" out of the case.
