I'm just going to make this easy on everyone...this site has a serial number entry, so its automagical :)

The code is on the barrel, usually just underneath the stock's forearm.
it is NOT the JM in a circle...that's the proofmark.

i tried it on my M60, says it was made between 1957-1958, but that can't be right, because the M60 came out in 1960. didn't it? my serial number 2R003xxx, has the 21" barrel , 18 round tube and non last shot hold open bolt. so i do know it was made prior to 1984. any input?

I just purchased a Marlin AD-L , 30-30 lever action. Serial number is 13,880. Can you tell me the year of manufacture. It looks pretty old. Thanks.
