Got my first bird today. Had a 9 1/2 inch beard.
Good job!!! That's a good lookin bird
Great Job ..... how far was the shot, what did he weigh ..... all the details. Welcome to the Thunder Chicken Club ......
Was sitting in blind on edge of pasture where they've been coming out into some clover I had planted for deer season. Five hens came out to my left from behind me. Noticed two gobblers come out of high grass from across pasture about 100 yards away and came running to the hens. The one I shot was in the lead. Shot him at @20-25 yards. Forgot to weigh him, sorry I'm new at this. Lol
Had a 9 1/2 beard and 7/8 inch spurs. Will make sure I weigh the other one, when I bag him.
Great shot. From the Pic looks like ya nailed him in the Brain Housing Group with 3 pellets. Good luck on the second one. Enjoy mighty fine eating !!
Got my second gobbler today. Came out of woods 30 yards in front of me with a little coaxing with the call. Had a 9 inch beard, 7/8 inch spurs. Sorry SWO1, couldn't find my scales to weigh him.
Congratulations ..... a good rule of thumb is on spur length, .75 to 1" is usually a bird just over a year old. Proabley last years hatch. In relation to your foot in the picture, unless you wear size 24+, I would say about 18 to 20 lbs.
Good year buddy, enjoy your harvest.
Thanks SWO1, I'm officially hooked. Lol
With the age of the birds, I thought the jakes are the males from last years hatch and these gobblers would be from the hatch two years ago. I'm confused. (Which is easy to do)
My son-in-law got his first bird of the season this morning. 9 3/4 beard, 1 inch spurs and 20 lbs. I also got my 3rd one yesterday afternoon. 10 inch beard, 1 inch spurs and 20 lbs. also.
I'm really BUMMED OUT ...... Just had 2 big Toms just up about 100 yds from my range ..... And I cant shoot until after my appointment tomorrow morning .......... Both the grandsons are gone today so couldn't even go up with them. Good thing is another two weeks of the season left. I have new .22 ammo to test, work to still be done on the Bench Rest covering. Grass to mow also.
Last three days have had a taste of Life On the Porch ....... And I don't like it.
Life on the porch/couch bites! I'm to the point I'm almost ready to agree to another surgery. Anyway, back to turkey hunting'. A.man in my Sunday School class got shot in the face yesterday with a 12gauge while turkey hunting! He is going to live, but he is blind.
GEEEZ ...... Happens every year. Glad he will make it.
Got my bird. He snuck up on me from a blind spot to my left. He made it out to around 15-20 yards . I found out after he has a double beard. 9 1/2" & 5 1/4" along with 7/8" spurs.
Congratulations dads81!!! That's a real nice bird you got. Enjoy the good eating.
Thanks.. I'm sitting out with the Mrs , waiting for her to get one now. Heard a few this morning, but only a hen came in.....so far.
