What do you use if your range doesn't already have Target Boards??
I live in a small town so that requires me to travel to a local range for target practice or sighting in. The closest range (outdoors w/shelters) is about 12 miles and they don't have any target boards, just dirt mound backstops. I sometimes shoot with friends that live in the country, again w/o any target boards. The second closest range is 22 mile but they have boards and shelters.
I've seen all types of contraptions being lugged to and fro. After giving it some thought, this is what I came up with. The design has been copied by several shooters at that range.
It is cheap, easy to make and very portable. Takes longer to walk 50 yards than it does to set it up or take it down. It stores and transports easily in any vehicle.
The example was made from scrap 2X4's and a scrap piece of plywood. However, I have used 2X2's with drywall screws. An 8' length of 2X2 cost about $2.00. I cut it into 2 pcs. at 4' long. Then cut again into 2 pc. at 3' long and 4 pcs. at 6" each. Using drywall screws, I assemble as indicated by the marker in the last photo. If you want a larger board, like 4'X4', a couple lengths of 4"X4" about 3' - 4' long work well because they are heavier.

If anyone has a design that they use and like, let's share.

I LIKE the simplicity. How does it hold up to impacts with big bore pistols or centerfire rifles? Any tip overs when the bullet strikes? Simplier than one I built with a frame. Ended up shooting the dickens out of the frame (kinda narrow) and rebuilt it once...then burn pile.
If you make the "feet" at least 3' long, it shouldn't be a problem. The smaller the size of the board and/or the thinner the board, the easier it is for the bullets to zip right through and the shorter the feet can be.
The only time I've had a problem with tip over is in high wind or the time that I had a 7/16" board that was 15" wide and 48" tall with 24" feet. I was teaching a beginner female friend how to shoot a 410 for home protection. I wanted to use an intruder size target. We were using #4 Buck and aiming about 12" down from the top. Now that tipped it over with authority. If your thinking about using a 48" X 48" X 1/2" board, you might consider using 4"x4"X36" feet for the extra weight. Other than that, 22 lr. don't have the impact and center fires punch right through.
