For myself and for the grandsons also.
Have decided to get a match .45 acp pistol and get back into that again. Had my LGS start looking for the one I have decided on. Its a Rock Island Match .45. Also ordered the Dies and will start looking for powder, bullets and brass. If I'm gonna have the range might as well take full advantage of it....:D

Besides the .45 will cut bigger holes and make my score look better than the .22 does...LOL

The best part about the large calibers is I can see the holes in the paper. LOL

I like the 45acp. I just don't shoot handguns well enough to justify buying a match grade pistol.

What dies did you get? I'm interested in reloading as soon as the availability of supplies open up.

I ordered the LEE 3 DIE CARBIDE set for .45ACP. It contains the Full Length Sizing Die, Charging/Expander Die, and Bullet Seating Die. The Seating die does a nice job with a Taper Crimp. Autos only require a Taper Crimp. I use the 3 die Rifle sets for my bolt and single shot long guns. Auto, lever, and pump rifles do best with a Roll Crimp.

For My revolvers I get the 4 Die sets which have the same 3 plus a Factory Crimp die which does the best Roll Crimps. Also a Factory Crimp die can be added to the 3 Die set or the 4 die set bought if you want to do the crimp function separate from bullet seating. Buying the 4 die set saves a couple bucks over purchasing the FCD separate.

If you use a Turret Press just set your dies and change turrets. On a single stage press I use the LEE Breech Lock Quick Change Bushings with each die. You can set your die in these and it makes changing dies a breeze without having to reset them. I have one on each of my rifle dies. My pistol reloading is done in a Turret.

I know....to much info. You ask what time it is and I tell you how to build a clock...I'm sorry.

My LGS is still looking for a RI Match .45. Has backorder in at 3 different suppliers. He has a NIB Remington R1 but I don't like the trigger on it and the rear sight isn't adjustable. The rear dovetail is cut Odd and has to be re-machined to accept a standard 1911 target sight. Also the front blade reportaibly has a bad habit of coming loose. At about $50 less than the Rock Island not a good deal. On average with a 3.5 lb trigger out of the box and a 1.5" group capability (the gun, not me !) I need all the help I can get.

After a lot of soul searching....well admitting to myself.... a match .45 AIN'T GONNA HELP !! Told Wes at the LGS today to stop looking for the RIA match and get me the RIA Tactical FS. It will shoot as good or better than I ever will (again). From all the competation sites holds its own with Kimbers and Colts out to 25 yards. I will never venture past 50' without a long gun. The .45 Tac is availiable and should be here soon. Another plus it's $250 cheaper......:D I just wanna have fun.

The RIA .45 STILL hasn't showed up yet....:( Did get the extra mag I ordered at the same time and the 4 hole turret for the press. Also have the dies, powder, bullets, primers. With 600 rds of factory waiting to shoot and reload the brass, I'm getting impatient. My H&R 999 .22 revolver is still at the Smith getting drilled and tapped so another project on hold.

Hoping it shows soon!! Im realy getting drawn to those springfield range officers myself. Looks nice, not too pricy, and is FAR more bullseye ready then I am!!! Right now the only 45 I have is my dads first BE 45.. its a Remington Rand that was moded for BE back in the early 60's. I don't like to shoot it much though... shes pretty old, and sloppy, and is a time capsule to a simpler time!!!

The RIA .45 is still a no show. And no word yet from the smith on the drill and tap job on the H&R 999. In the meantime just playing with the RIA .38 and loads at the 50' line with 170 gr match kings. Still havn't found the 180 gr. Getting close to going back to the .308s and getting ready for deer season again. Have to work up a load for the new Wizzard .308 and .243.

The LGS called this morning. MAYBE the RIA .45 will be here today. Also has ammo coming in slated for today also. Problem is AMMO and handguns CANNOT BE SHIPPED TOGETHER.... SO if UPS comes with one cant bring the other at the same time, UNLESS two different drivers/runs are made. Usually comes around 2-3 so will see what/if anything shows up today.

I'm about 100 mi, from Midway.....one way. It's that they both cant be on the same truck. Ammo and Long guns can, just pistols and ammo cant. A box of 50 BMG AND a .22 revolver is a NO-NO....go figure. But your can have 10,000 rounds of .22 and 50 .22 semi rifles, or a case of .223 and 10 ARs with 30 rd mags........ They also ship primers and powder together, and NOBODY stores them NEXT to each other.

Reckon they don't want someone to commandeer the truck and have guns and ammo at the same time! Yeah, like, get real! lol

Lookin at the inspection slip and paper work with the pistol it was built in the Phillipines on April 18, 2013. It was June when I ordered the RIA. I don't think the supplier had this one when he said it was availiable to ship. In any case its here now. Also the LGS got a Gov. model A1 with it. Fixed sights, no target trigger, standard length quide rod, single thumb safety, traditional hammer. Pull weight on it is more than double what mine is. And it is only $26 cheaper. Mine was $526 OTD.

The gun is TIGHT !! Manual says break in is 500 rounds before it will loosen up any. We will see. It is all steel. Made on Colt equipment. Only difference in this and the Match is the sights and grips are smooth vice the double diamond checkered. Match sights are availiable for $100 (64/26) and since front and back are dovetailed the same, switch out. I check the RIA Website about every other day and the fronts are availiable but the rears are still on back order. I have the two fired test cases that came with it so I sill make a couple of O.A.L. gauges and check that my sizing die and seating die is set properly and removing the neck flair just enough to properly seat the bullet. All I have right now is 200 gr Sierra Tournment King semi Flat nose. I do have 600 factory Win 230 gr Target to break it in with. I hope Sierra has ramped back up with the 230 gr Tournment Kings.
