Was at my gun shop this morning. He had a Ruger SP101 2 1/4" stainless in .38 +P (used) but in great condition. I said to myself...Self, GET IT. But no, came home and researched it. Great reviews. By all accounts stronger than a comperable Smith, No side plate. Its only a 5 shot but am looking for something to replace my Big N frame Smith .357 for a carry gun. MSRP on em is $650...marked at $489. But he will work with a traded in gun.

I called him back and said...I want it. Bad news...A guy just left to get a Springfield .40 auto to trade in on it. He said he would call me back if they couldnt work a deal. NEVER..NEVER..Ignore first instinct on a gun purchase, expecially today.....

Story of my life! Last Saturday I just missed a Remington Custom Shop Model 700 in .375 H&H. I've been looking for a nice .375 for awhile now and that gun had the nicest walnut I've ever seen on a factory gun.

I didn't get a call yesterday, so I went back this morning to make sure. IT WAS GONE. He said the ole boy had a Springfield 45 auto to trade. He drove a hard bargan, but he already had it sold to another steady customer looking for one, so made the deal.

But he did have a Mossberg Model 351K he had taken in on trade, sold, and gotten it back because it would not feed. We talked for a while and I got it for $65. Beautiful walnut, montecarlo stock. Overall good shape. When I got home put 3 CCI minimags in and.......cycled perfect. Loaded it with 10...first 6 no problem. Then....click, FTF. Ejected the round and thats when it jammed. If the bolt isnt cycled fast enough the next round feeds up behind the first one. 3 FTF in a row. Looking at the round....light Firing Pin Strikes. I think it JUST DIRTY. Tore it down and soaked bolt with brake cleaner...a couple of times. End of production for this model was in the 60s and probley hasnt had a proper teardown and cleaning in a while. Either that or someone lubed it with WD-40..... and it's gummed up. Innards of bolts should not be lubed...just lightly oiled. By that time my fingers were numb....ITS COLD. So left for warmer days.

Congratulations. Most excellent deal.
Should ease the pain from the SP101.
There are deals even in this market. Just have to be patient and be on the lookout.

Snow storm is preventing me from obtaining a Mdl 60 at a Gun & Pawn. Didn't have the bucks Tuesday. $100 and it's clean with two little dings on the distal fore end. Maybe it'll still be there after the storm passes and the roads are cleared? The little Mossy might have been the steal of the day! Hope your tear down and clean up results in a great little tool :)

My shop called Friday afternoon. He got his shipment of pistols in. Since I missed the Ruger .38 I have deceided on another Taurus. My daugher really likes her Model 65 .357 snubby. But she only shoots .38s in it. To replace my carry gun I will take it over from her. For a replacement I am getting her a Model 85 .38 +P. Same gun...just in .38. He has set it aside for me. WONT MISS THIS ONE.....:p

oldbrass....how do you like the 9mm revolver. I agree, Taurus seems to be a good gun for the money.

I looked (hard) at rimless revolvers in .40. Charter Arms Bulldog was interesting. Both their 9 and 40 dont require a moon clip. Ejects emptys great also. Its a built in gadget on the cylender. Although the cartridge has to be pushed in the final fraction to seat. Interesting "speed loader" demonistrated on the net was to use a mag from an auto gun. Seemed to work real well and fast with the Charter.

I just put the Mossberg 351K back together. Lightly oiled the rails. WORKS SMOOTH NOW. Reloaded the 4 rounds that had light strikes causing it to jam on manual ejection. they all fed, fired, and ejected fine. Amazing what a little cleaning will do.....:p For $65 and a few cents worth of brake cleaner think I have a pretty good auto to go with my Marlin model 60. When the weather gets right will mount a scope on it and see how accurate it is. I think the boys will like it shootin 50 yd. bench. As soon as I get the old 1939 model 80 retapped for scope re-alignment will have a shootoff between it, the model 60, Henry lever, and the Little Henry Mini-bolt. Taken bets on the winner at 50yds on 10 shot scores on a 50yd small bore rifle target........Xs will break ties. Winner gets the RIFLE.....(8x10 color glossy) suitiable for framing......:D Perfect score is 100-10X. Guess the score also and I will include myself in the Photo......
