Expanding The Reloading Shop !!

I added another 5' of bench and shelves a while back. Well that space is ALL USED UP ... :p This morning I got sick and tired of moving stuff around to do anything. So I will extend the shop another 8'. It will be an 8'X10.5' addition. Benches are already up in the section I will expand to. Just have to take down a partition wall with door and move for entrance into wood shop. Also will put up ceiling in new addition. Two sets of florescent lights are already wired in along with 4 double plugs on two separate circuits along the benches.

The expanded addition will contain the work benches for working on guns/stocks. Also all the tools will go in that part. The current 11'X10.5' section will be nothing but reloading stuff, brass, bullets, primers, powder, presses, and dies, ect.

I will take out the electric ceiling heater and put in a propane wall unit in the work shop end. Also will finally mount the Air Conditioner up on the outside wall in the middle.

Seems like a good project while waiting for the weather to get right to start the 50' rimfire range.

Temps goin to upper 40s tomorrow so will start on the expansion. Will make sure to post some pics as I go. First up is to clear out the space. LOL .... that will be a job. Stay tuned, more tomorrow.
Break time. Got half the expansion area cleared. After a short break will finish the other half. Then Pics up this afternoon .... I hope, If I don't get distracted. Moving the stuff is the easy part, finding a place to put it is the hard part. Already have a large contractor crap bag full. Will have at least another one.

I'm done for the day. Didn't get done but who cares. I got something to do tomorrow .... :) Here are pics of what the shop looks like now. Crowded with reloading and work/repair all in a 11.5' X 10.5' space. All my reloading will be spread out in this space with all tools/machines/work bench items into expanded space.

A little work results in a lot of enjoyment

I don't have mine all set up, but it is working, and I am moving stuff around too, but, though other tables are drop zones for everything from my glasses to last nights dinner plate, the loading bench is only for loading materials and "stuff" and for catching those loading/reloading essentials I occasionally remember to drag out of storage and plop down where I know they will be in the way...and when I have to remove them to another place on the bench, I know I have at least located it and set it where I can find it.
You've put together a very nice shop, swo1. Real nice.

I think my one bedroom apartment just got too small. I want a loading room just like SWO1's. Of course, then I would have to move my home brewery and winery into the living room. Life just got a bit more complicated.

Nice job SW.

Thanks Gumpy. I don't like cozy little places. I have to have room to spread out. Now the Pistol and Rifle stuff runs together. I'm not a very organized person and when its cluttered to me and I cant find stuff ...... Then it has to really be bad ....... I hate bins and little cubby holes to hide things in. I want shelves and bench space where I can see it.

Only thing is I have to move an 8" vice. Will have to build another bench section in another part of the barn. You just cant sit one of those any ole where.
Now this is a worthy thread. Thanks for the pics, and also thank you for making me realize how I need to get off my butt and start my own organization here.
Got the ceiling in today. Cut off the bench on the back wall. Started to frame in the partition wall to the wood shop. Gonna be high of 24 tomorrow so don't know if I will work on it or not. Will post more pics when the new wall is in and the old one is out. Then it will be ONE BIG ROOM, 19.5' L X 10.5' W.
The wall from the reloading/fun work shop to the wood shop is up. Now I can put heat to it. Will tear out the partition wall between the two sections this afternoon ...... then pics later today. Gonna be up to about 15 tomorrow so the heat will be great. Now to rearrange all the stuff .... That's the fun part.

Got the partition wall out, now one room. Will turn on the heat O-dark thirty in the morning and let it warm up. Gonna be single digits early. Will Re-arrange everything. Pics when it done. Here is the addition opened up and all clear. Well I did move some stuff. And that big 8" vice, havn't found a place for it yet. Don't want to sit it on the deck.... OH my back.

Got all the tools/cleaning equipment moved to the work area end today. Still have to find a place for the 8" vice, a 8" grinder, and a 4" vice. The reloading end that was the work table is now going to be "Brass Prep" area. Now have to reorganize the reloading side to separate rife and pistol stuff. Pics of what I got done today. A work In progress ...... :p

Old thread I know but thought I'd add to it. I really like the expansion you did for your shop.

I've put in bullet dispensers (not unlike candy dispensers) and that has really streamlined my process but I load one at a time on a single stage press. No high volume production for me. I'm old.

Gunner, I have one of the Lee Reloader presses as my 3rd press. I limit its use to bulge busting 40 S&W brass and occasional swaging. I have mounted a powder measure on it once.

Main press is an RCBS Rock Chucker

#2 press is a Lee Pro 1000

I would really like to replace the little Lee with either a Summit or CoAx. A larger progressive press would also be nice to have.
