I may be getting my first 45-70 for Christmas this year. The gun I picked out is the 1895 guide gun. That thing is sweet. The power of a 12 gauge slug with the maneuverability of a 336w carbine. I have experience with 12 gauge slugs and the recoil of a 45-70 is similar, so recoil won't be much of a problem. If I get it, I'm going to put a scout scope on it. Any suggestions on scopes and red dots under $150? I don't want to put a regular scope on a gun that small that close to my eye.

I put an 2X7X32 AIM scout scope an my Nagant. So far, so good. I am well pleased with it. Nothing bad to say.

That might work. Will it handle the recoil from the 45-70?
