ATK - owners of: Federal Premium, Alliant Powder, RCBS, CCI, Fusion, Speer Ammo, Speer Bullets, Estate Cartridge and Blazer. They supply the goverment by operating the Lake City Ammo Plant in Independence Mo. It is a Gov owned, Contractor operated plant. There is also one in Ok. that is Gov. owned and operated. Gov. contracts for ammo are filled thu these operations. Both report BILLIONS of rounds capibility. Ammo produced here is NATO complianent and for .223 is not suitible in Civilain chambered guns (most anyway). I dont think the .223 shortage is being caused (like all other items, reloading, .22 ect) by these operations.

SWO1 - Thanks for the additional info! Good to learn something everyday...even if painful:eek:

Where's the civilian pistol and rifle fodder that should be coming from CCI, Fed. Rem. Speer, Win. Hornady and the host of other smaller, lower-capacity new and re-manufactured ammunitions producers? Suppressed by Govt Restrictions or pre-sold in mega lots to Distributors that are rationing it out...or? I'm at a loss to explain why it seems daily more and more loaded ammo as well as reloading components are fading away from "Available, In-Stock" to "Sold-Out, No Backorder". Raw brass supplies for case forming in short supply? Just searching for bottom line answers.

Selfishly, I really would like a couple of bricks of 22LR for the Family Fun Shoot. Seems like deep-pockets are at work, at least with supplies getting into this area of MO. Hence the one local outlet rationing to spread the limited resources fairly. I'll just keep nipping a box or two here and there as I can, I reckon.

Well From what the manufactuers are saying....it's "CONSUMER DEMAND". When Lee says their demand outpaces their capibility "10 times" over in the last three month. And the Prez says they havn't had business like this in "35 years". You know the distributors are gettin it all, just like the ammo and other components. You know what happens when a weather event is forcasted.....Food and supplies dissapear like toliet paper in a dirrera ward. With over 300 mil. gun owners in the U.S. and untold millions more added in the last few months.....

When you go to a gun show and the stuff is stacked to the ceiling.....guess where its all going. SPECULATORS...Just like in Oil, pork bellies, ect. When my brother worked at one of the largest gold mines in the world, and then a copper mine....when the price fell they just shut down, laid off nearly everyone AND WAITED....It wasnt going to rot. Same thing with Ammo and componnents except its a little futher down the supply chain. If you have BIG $$ and get on the distrubition list from a manufacturer you to will have warehouses full and sell it at what ever price. Its a COMMODITY....not a necessity of life, therefore not regulated for price gouging.

Matter of fact one side of the fence is LAUGHING their A$$ off. We are doing to ourselfs what they cant legislate.

Just at the little show in Lebanon, mo this weekend for about $55 a brick you can have all the .22 lr you want. Same goes for .223 @ around $150 per 100. They wern't rationing it. And how many of these events are going on every weekend around the country ?? The longer they hold it, the bigger the panic becomes, the higher the price they can get. Is it going to end.....sooner or later. Just like happened to the Hunt Bros. in silver speculation back years ago. Only thing is this stuff isnt being bought for more than its really worth. They arnt going to get stuck with it and lose their shorts. Worse case they are going to get their money back....maybe not make a big profit if any, when the bottom falls out. But they arn't going to lose the farm either.

CAPITALISM in hyperdrive......:D Is this a great country or what ???

GE Capital and Bud's Guns

I didnt know where to paste this but I remembered there was a discussion some time back about GE Capital dumping Bud's because it sold guns and GE Capital was standing fast on its policy of being anti-gun.

When I bought the Savage 11 v/t .308 from Dick's last month, I signed up for their Dick's credit card. Guess who the bank is. Yep, GE Capital. I wonder why Bud's and GE aren't doing business anymore. Anyone know wuzzup wit dat?

Rumor Check: Did Obama Close a Lead Plant in Order to Enact ‘Backdoor’ Gun Control?

I am very Pro 2A and not at all pro-Bama. However, I am pro-truth, if it can be found. And yes, our rights and our freedoms are under attach. That is the truth.

The NRA is sounding the Major Alarm over this issue (as posted on Face Book). I have to ask; Is the NRA's philosophy the same as our present administration?? "Never let a good crisis go to waste." After all, the more they spin a given event, the more their numbers grow and the more money they get from the working class by using scare tactics (sometime from those who can't afford to give more.) However, our 2A rights are under attach and there are many gun owners that don't support a 2A defense group - and they should.
On the other hand, the GOA says that the closing of the lead smelting plant will not effect the ammo supply at all. (again, posted on their Face Book news feed)

Where is the truth & where is the ethics of our pro-gun groups. The following article may be the closest to the truth. At least it seems that way to me.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/201...plant-in-order-to-enact-backdoor-gun-control/

Another point of view is; If there are millions of new gun owners that are buying millions of rounds of ammo to get started, doesn't that enforce the support for gun ownership nationwide? I am willing to hunt and pick for ammo during lean time if overall gun ownership is growing by leaps and bounds. It will level out eventually. I'll just back off the range time until then.

Boycott

If we really wanted to make this hurt, we as gun owners could boycott gun companies that do business with said states
Maybe we could ask all the golf courses in the country to not allow BamBam to play on their courses after he is out of office. I could boycott them...but I quit playing years ago.

Obama is unfortunatly always after our guns and ammo. He sent the EPA after the lead smelting plant with the intent to slow down the ammo which in turn is a form of gun control. But from what i have seen it should not affect ammo prices too bad, but we won't know for sure for some time

You make some very good observations greyhawk.

1. The NRA along with a lot of other Pro Gun groups are feeding the frenzy. Mostly to their own bottom line I think.

2. Go buy guns was the battle cry, they did, AND ALL THE GOODIES to go with them, therefore the self inflicted shortages.

The mentioned Lead plant in Missouri has had an ongoing battle with the EPA for going on 10 years now and has given up for fiscal reasons. Long before Obama came onto the scene. They still operate and plan on keeping a reclaiming plant going, along with many others in the country. All the bullet manufaturers say they don't use NEW lead, only reclaimed. New lead is IMPORTED, mostly from Mexico and China along with the batterys, where the recycled lead comes from. Like a lot of things we don't want the mess connected with toxic manufacturing here.
