Picked this up today at my gun shop from a guy who was selling 9 H&R pistols. The shop owner didnt want this one and said it was worth nothing. I paid the guy $25 for it. According to the Ser# is a 1952. 9 shot .22 LR, double action with 4" barrel. Grips are origional and not cracked or broken. Action is smooth and trigger is good and light. Lots of outside rust and a little pitting on the barrel. I think it will clean up good and be a nice handgun. Will strip it down and re-blue. After I'm done might be worth $60 or so. But I've been wanting a little .22 revolver and for $25 and a little elbow greese I think its worth it.

Before I tear it apart I wanted to see IF IT WORKED..... I loaded 9 rounds and with a two handed grip, double action from 15' kept about a 4" group. that was 8 rounds....had a FTF...good strike, the ammo is about probley 8-10 years old. Last of a bulk pack of Rem 40gr coppers. Ive had a few FTF with other guns with the same ammo. I noticed the other day Wal-Mart has the bulk pack of Federal Target .22 LR for $14 for 325 rounds. Will pick up one to test the new (old) model 80 and this one.

This is the 922 broken down for refinishing. This is as far as I will, or need to go. Found a great site on H&R collecting. They recomended not to totaly disasemble if there was no rust on the springs and internal parts and the pistol otherwise worked good. There were no visible signs of rust on the inside, just crud and built up dirt. This can be cleaned with lots of solvent, picks, Q-tips and an air hose.

Second pic is after removing bluing, rust, and MOST of pits. The cylender was the worst but came pretty slick. No bluing at Wally World so will have to pick some up next weekend at the Gun show or Bass Pro.

This along with the 1934 Marlin 80 will be the first ones I've re-blued in bout 35 years..... Following the threads on this forum on the subject I'm sure they will come out just fine. Both are ready to go, just need the bluing.

I was afraid it would start rusting since I had it stripped so I went and got bluding this morning. I put 4 coats on the cylinder and it looks OK. Only put 2 on the barrel and reciever.....big difference. I will go back later when I do the Marlin 80 and redo the 922 with at least 2 more coats....maybe more. I used Birchwood-Casey as that is all Bass-Pro had. Used the degreaser/cleaner then heated the metal parts and applied. First coat on the cylinder wanted to streak a little but 2-4 coat straightened it out. It said it would in the instructions. Used less on the reciever and had no streaking. The kit comes with applicators that work well. You also get a spounge to apply the degreaser/cleaner, 0000 steal wool, and 240 sandpaper. The kit was $16. Looks to be enough to do about 4-6 guns (rifles). Probley 30 or so little pistols like the 922. Anyway it's a 1000% improvement from when I started and I will continue to work on it. Here it is so far. I'm pleased with my FIRST TRY.....

For a 4" barrel dont shoot to bad. I never was to good of a pistol shot. This afternoon I put two cylenders of the Federal Target load thru it. At 10 yds. resting against a tree kept them within 2" of center..although around the clock. I also have some CCI 36 gr HP mini-mags I will carry in it. Think I will check at the shop and see if he aquired the other H&Rs. There were 3 more Im thinkin about. A 6" version of this one and a pair of later ones that are almost identical to each other. Only difference is the cylender pin, one has 4 knurls and the other has 6. I will have to go back to the H&R site and see what the signifience of that is. I may be comming to think redoing some old negelected, abused firearms is more satisifying than aquiring new ones or ones is good shape anyway.....

I also have a H&R 922 camper. Mine has 4" barrel. I shoot any .22 rimfire out of it, S, L, LR. Nice little pistols. Mine is a 51 model.
