Intreaging question....so I googled it. Lots of explaniations. The one I like the best and makes most sense is:
When actors were taking instruction for a movie in the 80's it was from a ISPC shooter. In shooting an auto around a barracade or wall on the left side the pistol is held in the sideways manner.....reportably to keep the hulls from bouncing off the wall back into the gun......Makes sense. And of course seeing it in the "Movies" it has been adapated. Not used in ISPC with a revolver.....No ejection of brass......
Second best was when shooting in Self Defense or Combat, its easier to obtain "somewhat" of a decent sight alligment on more than one target as the gun recoils sideways and not up and away. Of course Accuracy goes out the window, but mostly.....Spray and Pray.
Thats what I say....and I'm sticking by it...............
