One thing I have not been exposed to in Iowa is rattlesnakes and Cottonmouths...and Copperheads. How much of a problem are they here in Texas and should I invest in a pair of snake boots?

I have never seen one in the wild and they terrify me.

if i remember correctly that you were moving to the Tyler area? if so, there are a few poisonous snakes. the copperhead the cottonmouth . not a lot of rattlesnakes in our area here in east texas. maybe the occasional coral snake.

Pretty much as I figured...

I knew there are snakes and biting iinsects here. Just did not have any instruction how to react or prevent bites. Thanks for the link.

I was thinking about a pair of snakebite gaiters or boots. May have to get gaiters first as boots are a bit pricey.

Thanks SW01 for the link.

My all time favorite snake gun was always a little sawed off .410 pump with #6 or #7 shot.

Im a thinkin the Tarrus Judge with the longest barrel would be dandy, also have the ability to chamber the .45 long Colt. Handloaded to the gills, not a bad round.

In my .410 I use the Win XP rounds with 3 copper disks and 12 BBs...potent on Armadilos, yotes ect.

Havent seen a Judge for 41LC but I do know they make several for the 45LC. I liked the 454/45LC/.410. BIG BOOMER!

I ordered a pair of chaps just in case on Amazon and should get em middle of the week.

Are you mistaken the 41 spec or 41 mag for a 41 Long Colt ????

Just out of curisioty I looked up .41 long colt. Seems Colt was the only maker of the pistol and was adoped by the army turn of the centruy.

Shot a 200 gr bullet and is compared to a .38 spec. in performance. Can still get the ammo for Cowboy guns and shooting. I think maybe it would work in a Judge, but I dont know. they said the gun was made up until the beginning of WWII and nobody ever made any in that caliber BUT COLT.

Even typing errors can lead to Interesting Discoverys...................:D

I think Ruger made a Super BH in 41LC but I am not absolutely sure.

I've never seen a cartridge head stamped .45 LONG COLT .
I believe there was a ,45 S&W and a .45 gov't that were shorter length than the .45 colt.
Also , the .45 ACP , and also a short new cowboy action round called the " .45 cowboy special"
Any pics of a head stamp that says .45 Long Colt ???

youre right, there is no actual cartrifge designated as Long Colt. It is just called that and has been for years. I like it so I will continue to call it LC.:)

I put out half a bag of corn and a big blast of Hog Wild...or Pig Out and have waited a week...not even a squirrel is eating the corn...or **** or anything. So, I wondered what is it that is repellin instead of deawin and this morning I figured out one plausible explanation.

My friend has a septic system and tha system has some kind of blow off...and the blowoff is spraying the topwater off the top of the septic and that means human pee and crap. Not the best thing for a wild animal of anu kind. So I made up a new bait pile. I may have to move out even farther. I am not sure how far that spray goes out but I doubt even this bait will do any good. I will let y'all know.

Sounds like ya got a "Crappy" spot for your bait. I would move out...Out of Sight and up wind !! Put up a game camera and then see what shows up. Make sure ya set the clock so you know what the pattern is. Just a suggestion.

Cant afford the cam yet but maybe in a cpl months. I think the baits are clear of the sewer area but time will tell. My friend bought the corn and then told me where to place it. I bought the syrup and use it sparingly. When I can get a **** or a squirrel to come to the bait I will make a big bait wallow and make sure that one stays sweet with the syrupy stuff.

Looked at some hog traps...too expensive for now...maybe later. I have a lot of woods behind me but I am startin close and expanding. The last 2 baits are 40 yds or less out the side door. If they show up I will send em a high speed message.:D

If its not a regular feeding area sometimes it takes a while for them to find it. Even mine for deer and turkey sometimes it takes days. But once one finds it they all seem to know pretty soon. I would have thought crows at least would be the first ones there. Other species tend to follow them in also. Hogs have pretty good noses, like deer. Of course Bear is the TOP smeller, if ya got any of them around ??

SW, no bears but last couple days crows have been more noisy than usual. Hopefully that is a good sign that they are eyeballing the corn. I am watching. This is all a learning process for me. I expect at least 2 weeks before anything comes in. Now that I have moved the bait out of the shittah I am hoping it will be more attractive to SOMETHING. My friend says he had hogs in his yard a couple years ago. Maybe ...maybe not. He smokes like a chimney and now i smell like one too. I will be moving asap.

Found a feeder...30 gal on a timer for a good price at Wally World. May look into that if I start getting some activity.

I will know soon I hope.

Thanks for the tips. I am anxious to connect with some porkies.

I also have tuna out to bait *****. I do like **** and homemade noodles.
