I think I'll have the same problem, not enough color showing around the hole. If so, I'll suggest they reverse their colors. Use green or pink for the background, and black for the markings. The black will show around the bullet holes, and make the hole appear bigger, plus the hole will show up better against a bright background.

Made it to the range again today. I had to find out just how much higher temp and direct sunlight will have on blackpowder loads. From what I saw, using the exact loads and powder I used 3 days before, I had no luck getting the balls to group consistently, unless consistently meant shotgun groups. Next time out, this weekend barring rain and heavy wind, I will see if I can find a good load for that day, whatever the condition.

First day out I had no trouble getting 2 hole 3-5 shot groups. Yesterday it was all I could do to find the holes in the paper/backboard. (I moved the targets out to 40 yards so there is a slight difference in groups expected, but not the amount of difference I experienced Tuesday.) Yesterday I had one good group but I just could not account positively for more than 3 of the 5 shots in a group. 2 distinct holes made by 3 balls, but I could not find the other 2 holes and I know I did not miss the board. The target was placed on a 16x20 sheet of white cardboard and the target was a black 8" Dirty Bird with a 1 1/4" Red Bull. Clean barrel, dirty barrel and super cleaned with solvent and allowed to cool 10 minutes between shots, didn't matter. Ol Viola` just wanted no part of bein out there. Maybe I should have stayed home with her and watched soaps.

Better luck next time.

PS OH! I did find out she despises Triple 7 FF at 60 gr. and 127 or 131 gr ball. I had .015" red and .018" blue pillow ticking patches. She did seem to like the red thin ticking a bit better. Naturally I only had about 10 of them and a whole crapload of the blue. Today I am cutting up the last of a 3 yard purchase of red pillow ticking into 1" squares. These seem to work well with .440" as well as .445" balls. Can't wait to get out again and planned to go again after work today but...I got a bit more sunburned yesterday than I thought. Today I look like a piece of red licorice, only without the twist and with a little bit more girth.

Snuck out this morning for a bit. Warm, wind at my back. I bought a set of the Caldwell shooting bags, they help quite a bit.
Started out with the Marlin60, at 50yds, shoots a bit better with the scope screws tight, but still not where I think it can. Still using the Federal Champion bulk pack, I'll try something a bit better later. Started out using the corner targets to get dialed in, than shooting the center.
Next up was my Ruger M77/22WMR, at 100yds, CCI MaxiMags. Put the 4-14x Nikon scope on it. Just shot the corner targets, ran out of time, and had a couple guys waiting to use the range.

We have college friends visiting. The guy from Long Island had never touched a gun in his 46 years on this earth. Took him to the range.

Started out rimfire rifle. A Marlin 80G with a Simmons 3-9X scope. Kept the scope at 4x and shot 25 yards. Then the Marlin 995 with Tech Sights.

Moved to the rifle range and had him shoot the Marlin 1894C with .38 specials. Kept them in about a 6" circle.

Pistols next. Went to the plate rack. Ruger 22/45 to start. Then Beretta 92FS. Followed by the S&W 28-2 with .38 Specials. He cleared the 5 plates at 10 yards with the Beretta.

Lastly, moved up to about 4-5 yards and gave him the S&W Model 60 J frame. He didn't care for that one.

I took the time and went over safety last night and again his morning. He was fine. He asked a lot of questions and had a great time.

When we got home, had him use the scoped 80G and do the 4"x4" plate I have in back with CCI Quiet. 14 for 14 sitting position from 25 yards. Two of his daughters tried as well, oldest was 6/7 and the younger one only wanted 1 shot, but she rang the plate. Then 2 of my kids took some turns.

He shot About 100 rounds of Blazer 22, about 50 rounds of 9mm and about 60 rounds of 38 special at the range. At home we went through another 150 rounds of CCI Quiet.

I shot 3 rounds through the 1894C, one cylinder through the Highway Patrolman and 2 cylinders through the J frame.

WAIT A GOLDANG MINUTE!!!!!!
You mean to tell me a guy from NEW YORK CITY, didn't P his pants and run screaming from a GUN????????
OR, instantly turn into a pyscho and start shooting everyone in sight?
You supposed to start those stories with "You ain't going to believe this [email protected]!t, but".....

In other news.........

I made it out to the range to try those free, pink targets, TruGlo sent me.
No improvement! Still can't see the hits. I even shot through one of the dots used to cover hits and allow continued use of a target, seen on the VisiShot by Champion target, next to the 4, top center. Other target is one I printed off the 'net.
They work good for a 1911 though! The 4 larger hits, lower rt corner, on the TruGlo and 1 on the VisiShot are from my 1911 .45acp, and no I didn't make those shots at 200yds.

I am having a heck of a time getting all the bits and pieces for the KY I built. I am waiting for a MagSpark nipple that will allow me to use 209 primers in the gun, and then BH 209 will be usable in my sidelock. I have a 140 mile round trip to run tomorrow to get black powder and musket caps from a guy in IL. Once the MagSpark is in, and I get the .440 Lee round ball mold, and the caps and powder tomorrow, I should be good for a month of Sundays, not including tomorrow. I will let you all know wuzzup when it's up.

Looks like exactly what I got...except I bet those caps are the 6 flange and not 4 flange. I hot some cloth bags just like the one in the picture, and they are for boiling hops in my homemade beer. Now I have several new uses for the hundred i bought 5 years ago. hehehe.

The capper and short starter...good ol memories.

I can get the GOEX for $14-$16.00 per pound but I was told that Schutzen is actually a little hotter than GOEX and more available.

The blue ticking atches were what I got before I bought a2 yards of red stripe ticking. I like the thinner patch better. The measure looks like it lost the end cap. Those maxi's were deadly in my Renegade 54. But this KY is strictly a round ball beasty.

One question...the number is 1075 on the caps. Are they still available? All I see are 1081's.

AH YES! 1075s are wingless.

I had a nice one with my first KY but went to brass flasks with different size charging tips. I also have my first leather possible bag, bullet board and short starter I made out of a piece of 2x4 and a broken ramrod tip. I also have a canvas bag or rucksack. I like that better than the leather bag. But the leather one has a knife sheath sewn into the shoulder strap.

Being a .45, the round balls are either 127.xx gr or 133.xx gr. depending how pure the lead is I pour them with and how accurate the Lee molds are that mold them. I won't be using any conicals or maxis. It has a 1/66 twist.
