Another one bit the dust...and I have to buy another one. I am on a dinosaur borrowed from my friend. Slow but it works.

If this stuff comes out as heiroglyphics you will know how old it is.:(

Look on the bright side Hombre....It does spell Egyptian real good (heiroglyphics).......:D
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I feel your pain. My kids were toddlers when I bought my first 4 function calculator for $72. Had to make monthly payments. You know where that puts me???? Being somewhat cyber challenged myself. I have relied on my son and daughter for help over the years.
I had a Dell with the XP system for about 10 years but the last several years, it would get a virus despite the "free" on-line AGV anti-virus and a couple other protection programs. About once a year, a total re-format was required which also required several hours to re-install personal files. Grrrr.
So, this last spring, I purchased a Lap Top at Best Buy with Windows 7 and their recommended anti-virus and no more problems. At least I skipped over the Vista junk.
Now there is Windows 8 Op. System. Time will tell how that works out.

I see here that you can get a free lap top?????????????? Beware -------- Big Brother is watching. thru Chrome?? http://techsavvyagent.com/text/free-laptops-from-google/

Or buy one for $249.00

Or - maybe not.
I hope you get it worked out.

I hate em too! I can't figure out nothing. Even my wiz kid son can't get a web site built that will do what I want done.

I got sweet revenge on the damn things once. My first (for me only) was an NEC. A super machine for it's time, when it worked. I had it in and out of the shop three times. Then one day it broke again. I fixed that SOB myself! I tossed it out a second floor window onto the driveway so I would never have to spend another dime on that damn thing. It felt wonderful!
I have a tool that works on every piece of electronics device I own. It's called a BFH...

Others refer to it as a 'large hammer'...

Started building them and using them in 89. I am not having any luck keeping them healthy. I just broke my old laptop and my new computer is still back in Iowa. Couldnt find room in my tiny car. I am ordering a new desktop but now my problem is...why is the address on the charge card different from my ship address. I tried to order last night, but the companies rules are such that if ya screw up the order (whatever reason) 2 times it won't let you order again for 24 hours. So I have to call them today and straighten it out.

To make matters worse :), I wrote down the wrong phone number...888 instead of 866...and got a "Hey baby, you have just reached the worlds hottest sex line." Before I knew it I was married, had sex 9 times over the phone and forgot all about ordering my new computer. Now I can't afford it and have to wait til next paycheck.:D
Spent most of my career with the DoD in the computer field...

seen the room full of washing machine size hard drives that fed the mainframe

shrink down to a laptop with 100x the memory on a desktop.
UPDATE
I got the online glitch worked out with the financing people and my computer order has been processed. It will be awhile before it ships...or so says the HP website but I got the same message last computer I ordered. I was told it would be 2 weeks before it shipped but got it in just a few days. Heck, as slow as this computer is it may be here befpre y'all get this post.

I am now a happier camper. Now I need some ice cream and I will be ok...:)

Like carrier shooter. Mine with the Marine Corps and Civil Service was with SWITCHES, ROUTERS, ENCRYPTION, AND COMM SECURITY. I didnt care what computer they stuck on my network(s) (Red and Black).....:D I enabled them ALL to communicate.
Bugger

I wondered why you not fired Skype again
You can do it all off an IPhone if you have one.
I do 50/50 iPhone and the "puter"
Whatever it is it will be obsolete in 6 months and out dated, something new and faster, better comes out:rolleyes:

Oh you mean a Ford fine adjustment tool.:D
hombre hate's 'puters and Bucky, I loathe those dang cell phones. I ain't that important, we got by just fine with Ma Bell and a rotary dial phone that would wear your finger out if you had to dial it more than a couple times in a hurry. If all else fails, they can send a deputy out to find me...it's happened before when I couldn't be reached to suit some brass in the USAF (nother story altogether).

As for my big Dell, the trojan that masqueraded itself as an Adobe update wiped it out. Using a hand-me-down Toshiba laptop and compartively speaking the old XP system is slower than molasses above the 15th parallel in January. It works & not much "disposable" $$ to worry about getting the big machine restored, rather spend my change on supporting the reloading bench and building stores...just N case. I'll make due as long as this laptop functions. Learned though and back up pics and important docs on thumb drives and discs. Heck trying to navigate and remember all the passwords for so many different sites so I back her up weekly.

Bucky, nope...but it is in the mail...or so they say. I found out when one orders from the factory and ships to the US it comes out of Mexico and has a day in customs before it gets on the way. They said it would ship on the 14th. I will just have to be patient...yeah right.
Patience is the last virtue I have left available to me...

PS Good luck with your new 'Puter, hombre243...

Obsolesence has not been a consideration. Having something faster than footmail is. I dont buy the best anyway. I cant afford it. So, nuff said about that.
