I learned to shoot a shotgun with one of those! It was my dad's and he still has it (tagged for me when he passes). J. C. Higgins were sold by Sears and someone told me that they were actually made by High Standard. I understand that the name was actually the name of a Sears employee in the day. At any rate, nice quality, steel, walnut, American, a classic and a real sleeper if you ask me. Does yours have the compensator/adjustable choke?

Thats like the Sears Ted Williams line. I have a 12 gauge Ted Williams and it is actually a Winchester 1100 with the name changed. That old pump has took a lickin and is still tickin!
No unfortunately the barrel was cut to 19in. And they dident keep the adj. Choke. Its to bad its a real nice shto gun. Took it to the range yesterday and shot some skeet. Not to bad of a gun cycles beautiful. (thats after 6 hrs of scotch brite and polishing the internals to get them to work again.) now i just have to steam the dents out of the stock and refinish it. Post some pics when shes all new. Also if any one has the original barrel p.m. Me i would love to get it back to how it should be.

Good catch Gumpy! I was going to include that in my original comment and just forgot.
Good luck Duddie - it'll be worth the effort!
