Yes,they definitely were not all stamped,missing stamps were more prevalent on .22’s but even centerfires got skipped frequently.

i recently got a older 1895 marlin. i can’t find a jm mark on the barrel, it is a micro groove barrel . was it common for barrels to slip thru without being stamped ?
