Marlin 336 question

I was cleaning my 336 in .35 Remington and the bolt went all the way forward without the lever put in place first. I am unable to get the blot to the rear to put the lever back in. I was wondering if anyone had a problem like this before and can I avoid a trip to the gunsmith or should I just go.

Set it horizontal (like you were shooting it), tap the sides right behind the loading gate. That should drop the locking bolt down out of the way. Or you can get up in there where the hook on the lever goes up inside and pull it down yourself, releasing the bolt.
Then just run a rod down the barrel to push the bolt out.
Should have thought of this sooner, so you'd know what I'm talking about.....

It locks the bolt in and also sets the "head space" and pushes the split fireing pin up into alignment to strike the primer.

Only on old brass that split at the head. Had to run a patch down the barrel to push out the blown case.
Is this reloaded stuff that maybe wasn't sized or loaded too hot?
