marlin glenfield model 75 jam

I have an old glenfield model 75 and it jams after every shot with winchester whitebox ammmunition. I found some old hawthorne ammunition and shot it and it never jammed once. I shot it sideways and upside down and it performed flawlessly. I do not understand it. with the winchester it either catches on the old shell or edjects the old shell but the new shell doesnt go into the barrel. most of the time the winchester bullets hit around the barrel opening and get bent. what is causing this?

Maybe need a new recoil spring?... old one may be weak. Is there a velocity difference between the old ammo and newer stuff? Might be the difference between hi velocity and standard velocity. I am just going on 1 word here...Old...old Hawthorne ammo. Man, I haven't heard that name in about a half a century.

the winchester ammo is high velocity and the hawthorne says "high speed" i got the rifle along with the ammunition from my grandfather when he passed away. the rifle is a 1972 so it could be the recoil spring

See if you can scrounge up a box of standard vels and/or some sub sonics. If the subsonics cycle, I would place a wager on the recoil spring being weak. Too bad ammo is in such short supply. Even finding ammo is an effort in frustration. Where are you located?

im located in central illinois where 22 lr is sold out everywhere except for shotshell ammo

I came here from Davenport Iowa in October. Not much to choose from here either. What city do you live in...if I aint bein too nosey?

taylorville is where i live...all the pawn shops and walmart are sold out...i went up to springfield the other day and all the big stores up there are all sold out too

I order online whatever I can afford and if it can be backordered...cool. I order, they send when it comes in. You may have to be patient for awhile and order from an online distributor. As far as the spring goes, I can't find one. You may need to find a good gunsmith who can make one for you.

I looked there but did not know how to cross reference it. I couldn't find the model 75...glad you found one...and good price also. Hope it fixes your problem.

PS If you're south of Springfield IL, you're out of my familiar zone. My dad and mom were born in Astoria (dad) and Canton (mom) I was brought up in East Moline. I feel the pull all the time to head back to the Quad Cities but I absolutely hate Iowa and Illinois politics.

ME TOO! Didn't stop me from carry a Govt Mdl in a Biancchi X-15 on occasions when necessary. Probably good they didn't catch me or I'd still be in IL and that was 30+ yrs ago. Only been in IL one time since 1991. Back once a couple of years ago to attend daughter's promotion to Major ceremony, have a drink and dinner to mark the significant milestone.

I might consider re-entering Illinois' border when the people rise up and wise up by removing the Overlords! You have my deepest empathy.
