I emailed Marlin and asked the question. Hoping I get a response before too long. But, the holiday may hold em up. I will copy and paste their response.Good info...Thanks !
I'm not sure if there is a pattern to the Remington serial numbers, other than maybe a range of sequential numbers in a year.Is there a chart that shows serial numbers relating to 336W rifles built after Remington took over?
My number is MR22xxxx
Codes don't work. I got an email from a guy who said the MR is Marlin Remington/and the 2 most likely signifies the year and the 2nd number most likely signifies the month...or vice versa...of manufacture. I got the rifle in Sept. 2012 so the 2 probably means 2012. The whole sequence may show what number in the lot mine was built. The whole number is MR2xxxxC. Could be a February, 2012 build.I'm not sure if there is a pattern to the Remington serial numbers, other than maybe a range of sequential numbers in a year.
However, Remington uses 2 letter date codes on the barrel. It will be close to shipment date. Decoder link below:

What was your company #? Mine was 116. It's amazing how many times that # has appeared in my life!Oddly, the next 3 numbers are my company number from basic. (USN) (Tin Hat time)![]()
