I need any help,ALL BATF LEGAL, have a 15 1/4" Marlin,mod1894,caliber 38-40,"SBR/carlbine,with saddle ring and tang sight,For its age and time frame I would rate it at about 8 1/2-9 on scale of 10. Said carbine has been in family since Grandfather acquired and reg.in 1968 in compliance with 1968GCA,Have all paper work.Shoots just fine ...Discussion states only 52 caliber 38-40 made and ONLY ONE AS A 15 1/4"MADE IN 38-40 WITH SADDLE RING.Most all who see all state that majority were made in 44-40 on special run and sent to Chile for their Mounted Police and those returned are ROUGH. EVERYONE seems to agree that none have ever seen and "Think" this is the only one Known ????? Need some thoughts ,ideas and or suggestions .Additional info SN#430591 which is listed in BATF exempt file...Thanks for any help......

Something doesn't add up here. The model 1893 was never chambered in any pistol caliber. So either your gun is a Model 1894, or it's not a .38-40? Need to correct the model or caliber before I could give any input.

There were 45 known 15" barreled baby carbines made in the model 1894. Bill Brophy had all known 15" barreled carbines added to the BATF's list, but since many were made after 1906 when Marlin stopped keeping records, those are not all on the BATF list. Some like yours made much later have been added before Bill had the BATF add known guns in 1980, and that's fortunate yours was accepted. Some have also been added after 1980 as they've come on the market and buyers offered them to BATF for examination and got them added. Most people with legitimate baby carbines have to submit them to a BATF office for examination and if all looks factory, they are individually added to that list.
But without knowing how many are still out there in other countries, or even in the US, it's impossible to pin down an exact number made in either caliber offered.
You've got a very rare piece regardless. It's such a limited number that it will always have extra value over any other length 1894 Marlin carbine.

Went to the site you linked, but didn't see your gun anywhere. Not sure where it's pictured, but looked under Marlin Firearms and saw nothing in the way of pictures.
