I have been buying and selling guns for several years and of course collecting a few. My question is about a Model 94 25-20 with a serial number of 4416++, hepburn sight and octagon barrel. The octagon barrel is tapered. Did Marlin make a tapered octagon barrel? The gun appears to be 100% correct.

The only thing shown here with a tapered octagonal barrel is it being chambered in 32H&R magnum .

Yes, I remember Marlin making a limited run of 25-20's and 32-20's, I believe in the early 1990's. Good luck with your search.
