For the recoil get yourself a recoil slip over from Kick-EEZ in the large size. The large will fit most any stock and can just move it onto what ever gun you are shooting. Rifles or shotguns. It takes maybe 80% of the recoil away from your shoulder. I think I paid around $30 for mine and I don't shoot any long gun till I put the Kick-EEZ on it. I can shoot a Mossy 12ga defender pump with only a t-shirt on with no pain or bruising. Works great on my 336 30-30 and my semi auto 12 ga shotguns also.
I say if for $30 I can enjoy shooting more with no pain or bruising then I will call myself a wussy and use the recoil slip on. This Kick-EEZ really works wonders.
