Got me a new turkey gun today. It's a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag 12 gauge pump. Chambered for up to 3.5 inch shells. Just in time for turkey season, it opens here Saturday.
The Mossy 835 is a good shotgun. Mine is an older one with wood stock. My grand sons is a newer one with composite stock and a little shorter barrel. Both pattern great and are dangerous to Thunder Chickens and bring home Turkeys/Hams/Bacon at Turkey shoots. The bore on an 835 is almost a 10Ga. Carsons likes Fiochi 2.5" and mine Federal 3" We both carry a 3.5" in the tube as 2nd shot backup.
Where is the Turkey Pics lingr ?? 4 days now. Season dosnt open here till 2nd week in april. I heard some hens today up behind the barn ....... Been seein em cross the road in numerous places. They are out and about with the good weather. Acorn crop was good last year so should be plenty in the woods.
I been meaning to ask you .... whats that thing-a-ma-bob on your butt stock. Kind of looks like a slate call but not sure.
Haven't seen any turkeys or any sign of any. No gobbles or hen yelps. Been talking to other hunters in the area and they've been having the same problems. There's a lot of timber cutting on a property that's across the bottom from me and the sound of the machinery and saws just echoes down the creek bottom. Don't know if that has spooked them off or not.
The round thing in the stock is a thing they call a Mathews dampener. Suppose to help in softening the kick of the gun by up to 20%. Looks cool.....don't know if it works or not though.
