The use of weapons of all types have changed the course of history. The best marksmen from around the country compete in challenges that put their skills to the test to determine who is the best using a variety of different weapons. The show features 16 contestants, split into two teams of eight, competing in various types of shooting challenges. One by one, the contestants are eliminated until only one remains. The winner will walk away with $100,000 prize and the title of "Top Shot."

The fourth season of Top Shot ( Tuesday 10pm EST History Channel ) will commence 2/14/2012.

The purpose of this thread is to have an official forum to discuss the shows challenges & challengers...weapon platforms, calibers used...and all the other aspects of the show.

Season Four begins with the biggest twist in Top Shot history: two competitors are sent packing immediately after a surprise shoot-off in the opening minutes of the first episode.

Later, two shooters get a taste of WWII combat as they fire an M1 Carbine from a motorcycle sidecar and attempt to stay in the game.

"Sweating Bullets"

Premier Date: 2/14/2012

PROLOG... For a different twist, 18 competitors show up at the very start, with two to be eliminated before the real competitions begin. Using an M14 rifle the constestants must fire one shot at a target from 200 yards. Players are ranked by distance to the center of the bullseye; odd and even ranks join the Blue and Red Teams, respectively. The two farthest shots are eliminated.

The First Challenge...Using a Ruger Vaquero SA revolver from 35 feet, the shooters must fire at separate grids of 48 targets (8 rows of 6). Target size decreases from 10" at the top to 4.5" at the bottom. One shooter per row; all 6 targets on a row must be shot without a miss to eliminate it. First team to eliminate all 8 rows wins.

The Elimination event involves using an M1 Carbine in which the contestants, while riding in a motorcycle sidecar, fire at 10 targets from 15-25 yards. Maximum 15 rounds per player. Higher number of hits wins; ties are broken by fewer total rounds fired.

"In the Trenches"


Premier Date: 2/21/2012

PROLOG... Teams grapple with an explosive obstacle course and endure trench warfare conditions while firing the legendary Browning Automatic Rifle. And in a Top Shot first, two competitors duke it out in a fierce battle with a multi-shot grenade launcher.

The First Team Challenge involves crawling through sand under 40 feet of barbed wire, then jump into a trench and using a Browning Automatic Rifle to fire at separate sets of 7 targets from 100-150 yards. One shooter per target; the next shooter cannot start onto the course until the current target has been hit. First team to hit all targets wins.

So...did anybody watch last night's episode...?!

What did you think about the weapon platforms used...?

And the Team challenge ?

I thought the challenge was one of the best so far, having to crawl, run, jump in a trench and fire an automatic weapon is physically demanding and made for a real test of skill...

The BAR is a favorite of mine, one that is high on my list to own eventually.

And that Milkor M32a1 grenade launcher looked like a sweetheart to shoot...

shooter i haven't, but i would jump at the chance to shoot one. they say they are pretty jumpy in recoil when firing full auto, but a blast to shoot. a full auto 30-06, way badass!

I've handled them at gun shows, but have not shot one yet.

On a side note, also had a chance to handle a Sturmgewehr 44,

the German assault rifle of WWII...it had a bullet hit right above the ejection port,

like the guy who carried it took fire, and one round hit the gun. History was dripping

off of it.

"Shotgun Showdown"


Premier Date: 2/28/2012

PROLOG...Top Shot season 2 champion Chris Reed returns to instruct the shooters
on several modern shotguns. One team crumbles in the team challenge, leading to a
tense nomination discussion. The final challenge is a head-to-head shotgun battle
that sends one contestant packing.

The First Team Challenge involves using a Benelli M4 shotgun loaded with slugs and a Benelli Vinci shotgun loaded with birdshot. Each team compete separately, with one shooter at a time per weapon. The M4 shooter must hit an 8" moving target to launch two clay targets for the Vinci shooter. Each shooter then goes to the back of the line for the weapon he/she did not use. One point per clay hit; higher score after 4 minutes wins.

The Elimination event involves using a Benelli Nova shotgun, from 35 feet,
shooters fire buckshot loads at separate 3-target wheels to make them roll
along 35-foot tracks. Once a shooter's wheel passes a marker on the track,
he/she may switch to slugs. First shooter to get his/her wheel to the other end wins.

So, what did everyone think of the challenges, the competitors, and the weapons on tonight's episode #3...?!

My thoughts...

Michelle is now history... wonder what Dylan will do now.

Well, the RED team really showed up and used teamwork to their advantage while the BLUE team fell apart once again...and I thought that big baby Greg was gonna cry at the Elimination challenge meeting...he's turning into the Jake of this seasons competition.

The weapons were sweet...Benelli is killing the competition in the advertising wars as they were also featured in last seasons matches.

Where is Mossberg, Remington, and Ithaca...just to name a few. If I was one of them, I would be throwing guns at Bass Pro Shops to get them on the air...gotta love free advertising !!

one gun i would like to shoot, is a bolt action 50 BMG sniper rifle! i wouldn't mind owning one, and really have no need of one, but i would settle for just a day of shooting one.

same boat, shooter! but i would still love to shoot one. this is one rifle, that would have no practical purpose in me owning it, other than the fact that i could say i own one!
