You can use a .500 S&W but not a .30-30?! What background did the author of that part of the legislation have?
Seriously, how many rifles are currently manufactured chambered in cartridges on that list? There are some that are fine for deer but most of them will be limited to H&R/NEF Handy Rifles or Rossi 92s.
I would be tempted to stay with a rifled 12g slug gun.
Well, that changes things... I don't understand their exclusion of lower muzzle energy bottleneck cartridges like the .30-30 but the larger straight wall cartridges like .38-55, .375, .444, and .45-70 all are great for whitetail.
