We had one when we lived in TX. Had no choice as all of the three houses we considered had them. I hated it! Due to the heat and Sun it took three times the chems as normal book values, the water temp in summer was uncomfortable, every bug and critter within a mile used it as a watering hole, and the kids were little so it was scary. I'd never do another one.

Pools are nice, but EXPENSIVE! Especially down here in Texas where its swimming season 8 months out of the year... The upkeep alone is damn near a full time job, but the money is leaving your pocket instead of entering it.

You and me both. Something about "The Neighbors can see us" and "This is a kids pool".

That's the truth of it. I've always wondered why pools in Texas shut down. Seems they could get more revenue if they only closed in December and January when we kind of sort of have winter.

I have a 28 foot round above ground, I put the salt system on it and never looked back. My wife and I swim in it almost every day! Great after a frustrating day!!
Very nice! So it's a saltwater setup? What's the benefit of that?

I am sorry to hear that.

You could always keep asking. It never works till it works.

The cell that attachs to the return on the pool attachs to a box that tells you all of the needs of the pool, but the big thing is ,the cell converts regular table salt( you buy it in 40 lb. bags) into chlorine!! Then the chlorine cycles back through the pool it helps regenerate the salt ! You get the idea. I take my water to be tested once a week and put about 50.00 a year in for chemicals and 2 or 3 bags of salt a year! That's it! Vacuum regular and it stays crysatl clear all year round. I have had it for 4 or 5 years now , I never drain it and it stays beautiful all year round. The initial investment was about$800.00 dollars. People doing chlorine could spend that in chemicals in a year!

You must be doing chlorine! If you can, and I know it is not always feasible, but the salt thing is awesome! I even took a lightning hit on the box last year and they replaced it all just for the 75 bucks for a service call, Aquatrol is the company. I have this clarifier I put in every other week as well, 4 oz., keeps it crystal clear all year!

That's impressive service and cost.
