My wife's Model 60W is in need of some minor refinishing on the barrel. I know that Black Oxide Bluing is corrosive, especially to aluminum so the receiver should be removed from the barrel. I've heard horror stories about totally ruining a model 60 by trying to remove and replace the barrel. Is it as bad as I've heard or is R/R common enough that it shouldn't be a problem? The finish isn't so bad that I can't live with it, I just want it to look nice for my wife.

It is very easy to remove the barrel. Strip the receiver, remove the pin holding the barrel. Hold the barrel in on hand and with a rubber mallet tap the receiver and the two will separate. Replacing is easy too, must make sure you line it up straight so the pin hole lines up.

Thanks, I've only seen a couple posts on line about it and they seemed to indicate that barrel removal from a Model 60 was like a last resort, kiss of death type thing.
