LOL ..... Looks like a Beaver has been gnawing on the butt stock. Seems to be cosmetic stuff, Wood. If the innards are sound should clean up good. Is it a 30-30 ?
It grieves my heart to see a quality rifle in that condition. Glad that you got ahold of it and will bring it back to it's original glory. Any idea of how it got that way?? Looks like it sat to long in the corner of a basement with 2" of sewer water.

No, no, you don't understand. This was deliberate. 7 to 8 pounds of lead melted and poured as a butt cap. Stupid Bubba attempt. Stock and forend on the way from Rick in Tennessee. I'll post pictures when repaired. Also got a Lyman Peep sight coming. I do love 30-30's. This is gonna be a good'un.
In the mid evil days they used to pour molten lead, or was it oil, off the castle walls onto agressors. Maybe he got caught up assaulting a Castle .....
I'm curious how it got that way???
It looks like lead was added to the stock but that much lead would double the weight of the rifle.
Then again, you would have a good start on casting your own bullets. Hee, Hee.
Now you know what the correct way is for weighting down one of those lost in the lake guns. It looks like it was on the bottom of the lake a long time.
Save the lead for making your own bullets. See there is a silver lining in some clouds. LOL
Bubba was so proud of his new recoil reducer that he signed it. It amazes me how some peoples minds work. I probably would have removed the butt plate, drilled a few large holes and fill them with lead.

What a mess.
If the outside is like that, it may pay to have the internals of the barrel checked, by a gun-smith, before you start the rebiuld.
You may also be up for a new one, too
Cheers
Bucky
