Separating your 39a

    I've seen it done but don't like the idea of banging my rifle on a table... I was thinking a dead blow mallet to side of reciever

    I wont bang a nice marlin on a table, or anything hard. On a nice tight 39a I simply remove the takedown screw. Cock the hammer. Then turn the gun over so the right side is down, and grabbing buttstock and forearm, I bump it across my leg. Usually 1 or 2 sharp bumps will break it into the two halves, and not hurt the gun or my leg.
