My brother always reminds me that he acquires guns but doesn't sell them. I hadn't ever sold a gun until about 18 months ago. I bid on 2 identicle S&W Model 60s in a silent auction and won both. I found a guy in Colorado that was looking for a certain serial number range J-Frame and sold it to him. So I effectively lost my selling a gun virginity.

I just sold 2300 rounds of Federal 22 LR ammo that I don't like (it patterns like a shotgun out of the 2 rifles I shoot the most) as well as 3 rifles. A Remington model 33, single shot bolt action from 1935, a Marlin 60 from 1987 and a Glenfield 25 from 1974 are gone from my safe.

But I now have some cash for at least 5 more project rifles. Let the hunt begin!

My son very seldom sells a gun unless he has one that he just doesn't like.
Me on the other hand, have bought, sold & traded guns for 47 years, My father & grandfather were horse traders, I guess it's just something that I enjoy. Out of 300+, I can only think of 5-6 that I kinda miss. One that comes to mind was a Marlin Mod. 62 (M1 30 Carbine) and another was a 6" Blued Colt Python.
To each their own, whatever makes your flag fly.

I sometimes wish I didn't sell the S&W, but I used the money and bought a 6" S&W 28-2 Highway Patrolman.

The 3 rifles weren't being used.

Several years ago, I sold the most accurate gun I owned (a Remington 7400 in 280 Rem - 7/8" @ 100 yds) to fund a vintage Mauser build.
That 7400 was boring accurate, 6 loads @ 1-1/4" or less. The Mauser wasn't as accurate, but a whole lot more fun to play with .

I don't get all that attached to mine, sell one I don't use to fund one I want, usually.
I do have a couple I won't sell though. Dad's old .32Spl deer rifle is one.

That's what I'm moving too. There are a few "family" or "legacy" guns that will never be sold. I'm starting to look at the others and see if there is a true attachment.

I've owned 33 different, have 29 of my own and holding 3 for my father in-law.

I've bought, sold, and traded since I was 21 and now that I'm middle-aged, retired, with grown kids who don't have the interest, I'm thinking it's time to really "clean safe" and start whittling things down to the ones that I really want to keep - the bank account would certainly enjoy all the new found friends! Of course, I still haven't gotten that 375 H&H I've always wanted and every so often I see on-line a used Merkel double or Rigby up for sale...

Except; It seems that you've got more expensive taste. (375 H&H, Merkel or Rigby)
I feel the joy of something new or different and I like spreading the joy with friends & others.
I really would like to simplify my inventory but it's not easy because there are "too many" favorites in the mix. Often times, I sell one and buy 2 more. Go figure. I just sold my NEF Survivor 45LC/410 and bought 2 Kel-Tec Mouse Guns. Both at 60% of MSRP and no paper work, I just couldn't resist. At the same time, I bought a Beeman Pellet Rifle w/a scope for $20. I guess I'm addicted.
As my health continues to deteriorate, the want/need factor will go down and purging will become easier. Until that day gets here . I'm gonna carry on doing what I do.

I take that "cut from the same clothe" as a high compliment Grey! As far as expensive taste, I bought some guns over the years as investments after getting hit hard one year in one of our retirement accounts. They say that you should always invest in what you know and the Lord has blessed me with a number of gun purchases that, based on the current market prices in my area, have proven to be very good investments - nothing crazy, but 5 times my money more than makes me happy. The Merkel and Rigby were mentioned tongue-in-cheek but realistically I'm thinking new CZ or possibly used Ruger Magnum Safari or Kimber Caprivi - if and after I cull the current herd. Funny how we become so attached to things made of blued steel and walnut.
