My dad carried a model 59 as off duty, when he retired in 1986, he went with the 659 for carry.

Above find my very first .45 ACP Pistol...a 2nd Generation Stainless Steel S&W Model 645...manufactured between 1985-1988.

It is a traditional double action pistol with Pachmayr Grips, an ambidextrous safety / decocker, featuring rear WO ( White Outline ) and front RR ( Red Ramp ) sights and holds 8 rounds in a single stack magazine.

On a side note: The S&W 645 was used in seasons 3 & 4 of the five season TV Series Miami Vice ( 1984-1989 ) by character Detective Sonny Crockett.

During the first 2 seasons...Sonny carried the Bren Ten...manufactured by Dornaus & Dixon, with input from Gun Guru Jeff Cooper.

Introduced in 1972, the S&W Model 66 was a K-framed six shot .357 Magnum revolver. It is a stainless steel version of the Model 19 and was initially available with a 4" and 6" barrel.

In 1974 a version with a 2 1/2" barrel and round grips was offered. It comes with a red/orange insert front sight and a white outline rear adjustable sight. The double action trigger on this revolver is extremely smooth. It fires both .38 Special & .357 Magnum ammunition.

    Variants Timeline:

    66 - no dash - introduced 1972.

66-1 - 1977, changed the gas ring from the yoke to the cylinder.

66-2 - 1982, eliminated pinned and recessed, slightly lengthened cylinder.

66-3 - 1986, new yoke retention system / radius stud package / hammer nose bushing / floating hand

66-4 - 1994, change rear sight leaf, drill and tap frame, introduce Hogue grips, change extractor.

66-5 - 1998, change in frame design: eliminate cylinder stop stud/eliminate serrated tangs/change to MIM hammer with floating firing pin/change internal lockwork.

    66-6 - 2002, introduce internal lock.

    2005 - discontinued.

    2014 - reintroduced.

Ruger 22/45, commonly called the MKII 22/45, but actually just the 22/45. Bought new in 1999.

I drilled and tapped for the Ruger low profile rail and cut it off at the length on the receiver part so it didn't extend over the barrel. Added Williams fire sights and an Ed Brown 1991 extended magazine release. It tried to drill and tap the mag release button but that stuff is hardened, so I used JB Weld. I removed the detent and spring from the bolt release so it will slingshot the bolt forward on reloads. No internal modifications other than my own smooth and polish of the internals. Lastly I had a set of molded grips made to go over the fixed polymers frame. I drilled through holes and used self tapping screws and blue locktite on e grip screws. I have three 22/45 magazines and one MKIII 22/45 magazine all with the Tandencross +1 magazine bumpers. Just a really fun little rimfire to shoot.

I guess you did. Considering the MSRP is $596. Nice find.
I have a friend that has one in 45 LC. Doubt that he would sell it for that price.
I have another friend that has the full size Rossi 357 carbine. He let me shoot it and it's a nice rifle.

The "Mare's Leg" also made an appearance in the movie Zombie Land...it was Woody Harrelson's sidearm of choice:
