This is my early 60s model 30-06 lefty featherweight that kicks like a mule. I`ve come to the conclusion that the stock is to long for my short arms. I gotta really stretch to get the proper scope eye relief (yes its set back) I`m catching the corner of the butt plate instead of it resting flat in the pocket.
Should I trim this short and pad it or get an aftermarket stock.

Being light AND having an ill fitting stock...... I would get a stock made for your proportions. It's probley gonna be hard to get that one to come out right. Might I also suggest a Muzzle Break....:p We all have to adapt to lifes changes.

I agree with SWO1.
I would keep the current stock original (collector / resale value) and buy an after market stock that is or can be modified to fit. JMHO. ;)
Who made the rifle???

Looks like Boyd's is busy too! Just figured I'd research for you but it'll have to be another maker's stock in the short term availability. I wonder if Boyd's or any other outfit would cut to fit your length of pull for little or nothing?

Good luck in finding a new nest for your Savage Recoiling Savage!

No lefty stocks, I`m in progress of shotening it, due to the rise in front of the butt plate it would be difficult to shape..I`m using a pad for a synthetic stock and an O-ring off a humvee fuel filter to make it fit.

Looks fine! Please make a range report and pictures of your bruised left check and shoulder should this modification with the LS pad doesn't pay dividends. That way we can feel your pain  One thing I did notice, you might re-set the time/date function on the camera. This pic says "6 June 2011" ;)

Now I have a Boyd's stock you can trim since you did such a good job here! Need about 3/4 in off to accommodate hunting clothes. :D
